ROCKY FACE, Ga. - Sophomore J.C. Deacon fired a team-best 67 in the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Satuday, and the Rebels retained their hold on third place in the team standings.

Deacon, whose first-round 74 didn't even figure into the Rebels' scoring, posted the team's best score this season with his five-under par effort. Moreover, he leapt into the top 10, currently tied for seventh place individually.

Ryan Moore, Friday's hero, slipped a bit in Round 2, giving back the two strokes he stole in the opener. With a 74 on Saturday, the Rebels' star fell to even for the tournament and sits in a tie for 18th place.

Two Rebels sit a stroke behind and sneak into the top 25. UNLV's surprise player this fall, freshman Mitch Carlson, continued to stay hot. He followed Friday's 71 with a 74, and at one-over is tied with teammate Brien Davis, who scored even par for the day.

Travis Whisman fell from the top 10 after a 78.

The Rebels managed to stay a single stroke under par as a team and are four under for the tourney. Florida retained its lead, moving to 14-under par.

Wake Forest's Bill Haas hung on to the individual lead, but now shares it with Georgia Tech's Troy Matteson, who carded a tournament-best 64. At three-under, Deacon is just five strokes off the lead.

Final-round play is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
