LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's cross country meet scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 at Sunset Park has been cancelled because of scheduling conflicts for opposing teams.
The Rebels will open the 2002 cross country season on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah.

Former Rebel distance standout Katie Barto (1997-2001) will serve as a volunteer coach with the cross country program this fall. Barto, the school record holder in the outdoor 3,000 meters (9:49.94), became only the second UNLV harrier to advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships posting the Rebels' best finish ever (74th).
Rick Baird, a Las Vegas native, also joins the volunteer staff and will offer his expertise in the throwing events. Baird was an All-Big West Conference hammer thrower while at Utah State and currently competes on the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation circuit.
Former javelin specialist Jennifer Gardner (2000-02) will serve as a student assistant coach this season, while completing her coursework at UNLV. Gardner holds the school record in the javelin (new standards) with a career best toss of 151-09.00 (46.25m) accomplished at the 2001 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships as a junior.
