LAS VEGAS - Juniors Romel Beck and Odartey Blankson led the scoring effort for the Runnin' Rebels Saturday night at the annual Scarlet and Gray Game at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Scarlet team defeated the Gray squad 52-23 in the scrimmage that featured two 10-minute halves.
Beck led all scorers with 12 points and Blankson added 10 in the team's first public showcase of the 2003-04 season. Sophomore Louis Amundson led all players with seven rebounds.
Senior J.K. Edwards, junior Jerel Blassingame, Amundson and freshman Jonathan Osborne all poured in nine points each.
Freshman Michael Umeh added six points, senior Demetrius Hunter scored five, while senior James Peters, junior Andy Hannan and freshman Darrell Jenkins each scored two. Freshman John Winston was the only player to not score in the scrimmage.
Blankson grabbed six rebounds, Edwards had five, Hannan had three and Blassingame grabbed two.
Osborne led all players with three made 3-pointers, while Hunter, Beck and Blassingame all hit one.
The Runnin' Rebels, under third-year head coach Charlie Spoonhour, will open their exhibition schedule against the Los Angeles Stars on Monday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV will then host the Houston Superstars on Nov. 15 before opening the regular season on Nov. 21 against Delaware State.
