LAS VEGAS - The ranked teams flexed their muscles in the first round of the Las Vegas Founders Women's Collegiate Shootout on Monday.
Sixth-ranked New Mexico shot an even-par 288 at the par-72, 6,194-yard Anthem Country Club, and the Lobos hold a five-stroke edge over No. 11 Oklahoma.
The host Rebels shot an 18-over par 306 and sit in eighth place.
"We didn't putt very well as a team and that affected our outcome," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "We have to realize there are still 36 holes in the event and we'll try to use tomorrow as a moving day."
Individually, Colorado State's Tricia Quick set the pace by tying a tournament record with a four-under 68. She has a one-stroke lead over New Mexico's Katrina Leckovic and a two-stroke edge over Oklahoma's Lisa Meldrum.
The best showing from the Rebel lineup came from junior Hwanhee Lee, who is tied for 12th place after shooting a two-over 74.
A 75 from Seema Sadekar, a 77 from Sunny Oh and an 80 from Elena Kurokawa rounded out the Rebels' team scoring. Young Pak's 85 was discarded, and the rest of the squad played as individuals.
Also playing for the Rebels were Tina Mabanta (79), Ayeesha Kosugi (81), Christine Hentzner (88) and Erin McGough (90).
The Rebels will begin second-round play in the first wave, which tees off at 8:00 a.m.
