WAHAIWA, Hawaii - JC Deacon shot a three-under 69 and sits in a tie for seventh place after the first round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Course on Wednesday.
Deacon's 69 is just two strokes behind first-round leader Mark Warman of San Diego State and led the Rebels to an even-par round good for ninth place on the 19-team leaderboard.
At 288, UNLV trails Arizona by eight strokes for the team lead.
Brien Davis and Travis Whisman pitched in with sub-par rounds, both carding 71 and rounding out the top 20. But the Rebels gave some strokes back in the bottom of the lineup where Ryan Moore fired 77 and Mitch Carlson shot 78.
Second-round play will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. HST on Thursday morning.
