Final Stats
WAHAIWA, Hawaii - UNLV sophomore golfer Travis Whisman capped an outstanding tournament with a final-round 68, but could not surpass San Diego State's Lars Johansson for medalist honors at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Friday.
Whisman played all three rounds under par at the Leilehua Golf Course, but saved his best for last with a four-under day. Johansson, who had a one-stroke lead over Whisman to begin the day, carded an identical 68 to win the tourney.
Arizona rolled to the team title, winning by seven strokes after an eight-under par round. UNLV finished in fourth place, scoring four-under par as a team on the day.
Completing the Rebels' scorecard were JC Deacon, who tied for ninth at four-under, Ryan Moore, who tied for 20th at two under, and Brien Davis, who slipped to 26th after a final-round 74 left him even. Mitch Carlson's 78 was thrown out.
The fourth-place finish keeps the Rebels' streak in tact of finishing fourth or better at all five tournaments this season.
UNLV returns home to host the Callaway Golf Las Vegas Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Course from March 7-9.
