HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Michele Suszek placed 10th to lead the UNLV women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the UC Irvine/J.L. Design Enterprises Invitational at Central Park in Huntington Beach, Calif., on Saturday.

In the team's first event of the season, a 5k race, Suszek clocked a strong finish of 19:31.4.

The Rebels' next finisher was Yolanda Chee (56th) at 21:05.1, followed by Erin Hammond (66th) at 21:28.6, Sarah Loughlin (69th) at 21:36.2, Heather Walsh (75th) at 21:51.9, Ashley Pierce (87th) at 22:25.4, Katie Hughes (91st) at 22:45.2 and Samantha Serrano (98th) at 23:16.8.

New Mexico State's Rachael Cuellar finished first among individuals with a time of 18:39.2.

Arizona won the women's team competition with 45 points, while Southern Utah finished second with 60. Cal State Northridge (85), host UC Irvine (86), UC San Diego (126) and UNLV (216) followed. A total of 11 women's teams competed in the event.
