LAS VEGAS - The 37th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team dropped only one set to open its 2004 dual-match season with a 7-0 victory over Nevada, Reno at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Friday.

Playing in perfect conditions, the Lady Rebels (1-0) began by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point. In singles play, the only drama came at the top spot where Gyorgyi Zsiros needed a third-set super-tiebreaker to down Bachlan Pham 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).

Winning in straight sets for the home team were Agnieska Abram at No. 2, Anne Claire Ortiz-Luis at No. 3, Cindy Treber at No. 4, Claire Smith at No. 5 and Mery Constanti on Court Six.

"It feels good to get the first match under our belts," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "It was a good start and we are looking forward to a good challenge from New Mexico State."

UNLV hosts NMSU Saturday while UNR will take on Weber State. Both matches begin at 10 a.m.
