PALO ALTO, Calif. - The UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 12-over-par 288 on Sunday and finished in second place at the Nelson Invitational, which was played at the par 69, 6,444-yard Stanford Golf Course.
New Mexico (277-269-284--830, +2) held on for the team title after shooting a final round score of 8-over 284. The Lobos finished the tournament at 2-over, five shots ahead of UNLV (279-268-288--835, +7). Georgia State (275-279-283--837, +9) finished third, seven shots back. Missouri (284-275-285--844, +16) and Stanford (285-279-280--844, +16) rounded out the top five.
Jarred Texter (70-65-71--206, -1) turned in UNLV's best individual performance and 1-under, tying for third place, but he finished eight shots behind Georgia State's Steve Tiley (67-67-64--198, -9) and New Mexico's Spencer Levin (65-65-68--198, -9), who tied for first place at 9-under.
UNLV's Ryan Moore (67-70-71--208, +1) finished the tournament in sixth place at 1-over, while Travis Whisman (71-64-74--209, +2) was UNLV's third top-10 finisher as he finished tied for seventh.
Other Rebel competitors were: Matt Kinsinger (T28; 71-71-72--214, +7) and Sam Hunt (T42; 72-69-76--217, +10).
