COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Despite being named National Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday, UNLV's Joe Bartoch was forced to share the Mountain West Conference weekly honor, as the league named Bartoch and Wyoming's Carl Marais Men's Co-Swimmers of the Week on Thursday.
Bartoch, a junior of London, Ontario, won two individual events and swam on one first-place relay to lead the Rebels to a 152.5-141.5 upset of 17th-ranked Arizona State in the season opener for both teams on Friday. The only double-event winner of the meet, he claimed first in both the 100 yard free (45.99) and 100 fly (49.79). while also swam the 200 medley relay to first in a time of 1:31.16. For his efforts, he was named the National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week by CollegeSwimming.com on Tuesday.
The Rebels (1-0) will next host Mountain Conference rival Utah on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2 pm in Buchanan Nataorium.
