LAS VEGAS - UNLV freshman standout Elena Gantcheva won twice Sunday to move into the final round of pre-qualifying at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Classic on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles.
While two other Lady Rebels fell in the day's early round, Gantcheva eased by Monika Kolbovic of Washington 6-4, 6-1, and then eliminated Imke Reimers of Nebraska 6-4, 6-2. Gantcheva, who improved to 5-0 in her brief career, will face Anna Bentzer of UC Irvine Monday morning for the right to advance into the elite tournament's qualifier.
"This has been an exciting weekend for us here," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "Elena is quickly making a statement that she will be in the mix with the elite players in college tennis during her UNLV career."
