LAS VEGAS - Two Rebel seniors won twice in singles Friday to advance through the first day of the UNLV Men's Tennis Fall Classic, which is being played at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Aviram Salomon, ranked 67th, downed Alex Strom of Portland 6-3, 6-2 in his morning match and then got by Evan Zeder of Illinois, who defaulted with the score standing 6-3, 3-6, 4-4.

Joel Kielbowicz added a first-round surprise by upsetting 99th-ranked Ockie Oosthuizen of Tennessee 6-2, 6-2. The Las Vegas native then held off Roman Borvanov of Portland 7-6, 7-5 to move on.

Salomon and Kielbowicz also teamed up to win their doubles match over Strom and Joshua Roach of Portland 8-3 to move into the semifinals.

UNLV's other Main Draw victory on the day came when Sean Hubbard won his first match in the second flight, 6-1, 6-2 over Portland's Timothy Chang, before falling in the second round.

"We faced tough competition today from some quality programs so I am pleased we got two into the semifinals," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "Joel Keilbowicz had a big win over a ranked opponent so we are seeing some good things coming from our last tournament of the fall season."
