Rebel Swimmers Set Record

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The UNLV relay team of juniors Jonathan Hugo, Patrick Adams, Michael Day and sophomore Joe Bartoch set a school and Mountain West Conference record in the 200-yard relay on the first day of competition at the MWC championships. Their time of 1:28.64 put them a full second ahead of second-place BYU, who finished with a time of 1:29.80. This marks the fourth time in five years that UNLV has claimed the title in this event (2000, 2002, 2003, and 2004).

On the women's side, UNLV posted a third-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The team of Kristen Kaiser, Marta Stepanczuk, Rachel Curci and Allison McInturff finished with a time of 7:29.90, which put them behind Colorado State at 7:22.80 and BYU at 7:28.84.

BYU leads both the men's and women's field after Day One with 110 and 108 points, respectively. Utah trails the Cougars in men's action with 109 points, followed by Wyoming (99), Air Force (85), and UNLV (70). The Rams hold the No. 2 spot in the women's events with 99 points, followed by New Mexico (96), Wyoming (89), UNLV (77), Utah (62), Air Force (50) and San Diego State (46).

DayTtwo events continue today and the championships will continue through Saturday, Feb. 21.
