Men's Tennis

Now Nehles

Feb. 24, 2004

LAS VEGAS - Henner Nehles has become the first UNLV men's tennis player to be ranked in almost two years.

Nehles, from Duisburg, Germany, went from unranked in the preseason poll all the way up to No. 55 in the nation in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings, which were released Tuesday.

The sophomore is 8-3 on the year, including 4-1 in dual matches. On February 11, he won his second career Mountain West Conference Player of the Week award after a weekend that included upsetting then-eighth-ranked Michael Kogan of Tulane.

Nehles is the first Rebel to be ranked since All-American Thomas Schneiter concluded his college career at No. 54 in May 2002.

While the men's team (2-3) was not ranked, the UNLV women's squad (3-2) moved up one spot to No. 37 nationally. No Lady Rebels were currently ranked in singles or doubles.
