COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Teri Trautwein placed 11th in the women's pentathlon as the Rebels opened competition in the 2004 Mountain West Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday at Cadet Field House. The pentathlon was the only women's event held on Thursday, as a full slate of events will start on Friday, with the meet concluding on Saturday.
Trautwein scored 2,706 points in the pentathlon to place 11th overall, 266 points out of the top eight scoring positions. Of the five events in the pentathlon, her throw of 38-09.00 feet in the shot put was the best among all participants.
Leslie Miller of San Diego State won the event with 3,858 points, while BYU's Liis Berendsen was second with 3,773. San Diego State leads the team scores going into Friday's competition with 17 points, while Colorado State is second at 11, BYU third (8), Wyoming fourth (2), and New Mexico fifth (1). UNLV, Utah, and Air Force are tied at sixth with no score.
The second day of events at the championship meet will start on Friday at 12:30 am (MST).
