COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Kiyota Reed and Miesha McClendon both finished in the top seven of the 60 meter hurdles preliminaries to qualify for Saturday's finals, as the Rebels completed the second day of competition at the 2004 Mountain West Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Air Force at Cadet Field House.
Reed was sixth with a time of 8.71, while McClendon was seventh in 8.80 to advance both Rebels to the finals. UNLV's Halima Decree, a fourth place finisher in the 60 meter dash at last year's meet, missed this year's finals after false starting in the prelims. The Rebels scored one point from the day's competition, as the distance medley relay time placed eighth in a time of 14:32.34.
BYU leads the team scoring with a score of 78, well ahead of second place Colorado State (45.5). In third is San Diego State at 37, while Utah is close behind in fourth at 35.5. Wyoming is fifth (21), New Mexico sixth (11), Air Force seventh (5), and UNLV eighth with one point.
The third and final day of events at the championship meet will start on Saturday at 11:30 am (MST).
