LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's track & field team will open its 2004 season as the Rebels will take 14 athletes to compete in the Mountain T's Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Saturday morning.
Northern Arizona is hosting the meet. Field events are set to start at 9 am, while running events will begin at 10 am.
UNLV's presence should be known in the jumps, hurdles, and sprints. Seniors Tiffany Smith and Christine Spence will lead the Rebels in the triple jump and long jump, respectively, while Miesha McCrlendon and Kiyota Reed will highlight the hurdles competition for UNLV. McClendon finished seventh in the MWC indoors last season, while Reed was a sixth place finisher.
In the sprints, UNLV will be led by Halima Decree, a third-place finishers in the 100m in the 2003 MWC outdoor championships. Redshirt freshman Deanna Appuglise could also make an impact in the sprint events.
