LAS VEGAS - Five UNLV runners advanced to Saturday's finals after the third day of competition on Friday at the 2004 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, hosted by UNLV at Myron Partridge Stadium/Sheila Tarr Smith Field.
Junior Halima Decree led the way for the Rebels, as she was the top qualifier in the 100m dash in a time of 11.62, and also qualified in the 200 meter dash, finishing fourth with a time of 24.21. Joining DeCree in advancing to the 100m finals was Kiyota Reed, fifth with a time of 12.01.
Reed also qualified in the 100m hurdles, placing fourth with a time of 13.74, while Miesha McClendon also moves on after placing fifth with a time of 13.91. Christine Spence turned in a fourth place time of 60.52 to earn a spot in Saturday's finals.
UNLV fell to seventh in the team scoring after not scoring on the third day, though two Rebels came close in reaching the top eight, as Michele Suszek ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11:19.97 to place ninth, while Tiffany Smith posted a 10th place mark of 5.38m.
BYU leads the meet with 93 points, while Colorado State is second at 53. San Diego State is third at 45, Air Force fourth at 37, New Mexico fifth (19), Utah is sixth (11), host UNLV is seventh (8), while Wyoming is eighth with seven points.
The meet concludes Saturday.
