HOT SPRINGS, Va. - UNLV junior golfer Ryan Moore shot a three-under par 67 and sits just two strokes off the lead after the first round of play at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday.

Moore was one of just 19 golfers in the 154-player field to shoot under par at the par-70, 6,679-yard Cascades Course at the Homestead Resort. California's Jeff Hood set the pace with a five-under-par 65 and has a one stroke lead over both Kevin Kisner of Georgia and Adam Meyer of TCU.

Moore carded five birdies on the day, including three on his last five holes. He posted the best score of the six individual players in the field.

Behind Hood's play, California leads the team race as the only squad to come in under par. The Golden Bears have a one-stroke edge over BYU.

Moore will begin his second round in the 72-hole tournament at 8:48 a.m. EDT.
