LOS ANGELES - Second-ranked UCLA posted its third straight shutout with a 7-0 decision over visiting UNLV in men's tennis action at the Los Angeles Tennis Center Tuesday.
The Rebels (0-2) were only able to win one set in singles and a lone doubles match vs. the powerful Bruins (0-3), who boasted three of the nation's top-40 ranked players in their lineup.
UCLA's eighth-ranked Benjamin Kohlloeffel breezed by 38th-ranked Henner Nehles at the top spot, 6-0, 6-0, and No. 14 Luben Pampoulov followed suit, defeating No. 100 Aviram Salomon by the same score at the second position.
The closest singles match of the day came at the fourth spot, where UNLV's Romain Massaro split sets with Bruin senior Alberto Francis. Francis, ranked No. 39 nationally, ended up needing a super-tiebreaker to decide the match, winning 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Doubles play was much more competitive and the Rebels picked up their lone victory on the day at the top spot where Nehles and Salomon combined for an 8-5 win over Kohlloeffel and Pampoulov.
UNLV is off until opening its home schedule vs. Northern Arizona on Feb. 4.
