Oct. 21, 2005

LAS VEGAS - UNLV's contingent was eliminated in Friday's singles quarterfinals and doubles round of 16 at the 2005 Wilson/ITA Region 7 Men's Tennis Championships being staged at the Darling Memorial Tennis Center.

Senior Joel Kielbowicz, ranked 85th nationally and seeded 11th, was ousted by the event's top seed, 13th-ranked Luke Shields of Boise State, 7-5, 6-4 while senior Romain Massaro fell 6-2, 6-2 to 14th-seeded Peter Bjork of Colorado.

In doubles play UNLV also saw both of its entries go down. Kielbowicz and Wes Burrows lost to the fifth-seeded duo of Eric Molnar and Chad Tsuda of Colorado 8-1, while Martin Redelinghuys and Jonathan Hooper fell 8-3 to BYU's Chip Hand and Jonathan Sanchez.

Both Rebel teams will play in Saturday's doubles consolation bracket.

Members from 16 western teams are facing off as individuals through Sunday in both singles and doubles. No less than 17 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women are taking place over the last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 3-6 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
