WINDERMERE, Fla. - The fourth-ranked UNLV men's golf team is in 13th place after tallying a two-round total of 22-over-par 598 after the first day of play at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Country Club (par 72, 7,493 yards) on Sunday.
The tournament schedule was altered in anticipation of inclement weather brought on by Hurricane Wilma on Monday. The teams were to only play 18 holes Sunday, but the change was made to have them complete as many of the first 36 holes as possible before predicted thunderstorms hit.
Wake Forest has the team lead at 7-under 569 and is followed by Georgia at 6-under. The Demon Deacons and Bulldogs are the only teams in red numbers in a field that contains 13 of the top 20 teams in the country.
Oklahoma State is third at 1-over, followed by UCLA (+5). Georgia Tech and Arizona State are tied for fifth at 8-over-par.
The Rebels turned in a first-round 8-over 296 in the morning, followed by a second-round 14-over 302.
Wake Forest's Sean Moore holds the individual lead at 6-under 138, one stroke ahead of a three-way tie for second that includes the Demon Deacons' Doug Manchester and defending co-medalists Pablo Martin from Oklahoma State and Chris Kirk from Georgia.
UNLV's Andres Gonzales leads all Rebel individuals after shooting even-par 144 and is in a tie for ninth place.
Other Rebel players: C.J. Gatto (+2, T23rd), Jarred Texter (+9, T58th), Seung-Su Han (+12, T73rd) and Blake Trimble (+15, T81st).
The teams will have the day off Monday while the hurricane is expected to pass across the Southern end of Florida, well below Windermere. Provided there is no significant work that needs to be done to prepare the golf course Tuesday, the final round will be played as originally scheduled with teams starting on the first and 10th tees at 8 a.m. EDT.
