PROVO, Utah - Swimming the first of two back-to-back conference meets in Utah, the UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost in MWC action for the first time this year, falling on the road to BYU on Friday afternoon. The Rebel women (2-2, 2-1) were handed a 141-102 loss, while the BYU men rallied from a deficit with two events left to claim a 132-109 win over UNLV (2-1, 1-1).

BYU won three of the first four and seven of the first nine events on the women's side to earn the team victory. Leading the Rebels was Bailey Kustermeyer, who won the 1000 free in a time of 10:29.04, and added a win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.81. Wendy Williams won the 3-meter diving with a score of 258.60, while the UNLV 400 free relay also took first, swimming a time of 3:32.07.

On the men's side, the Rebels held a 105-101 lead with just two events to go, but were outscored by a total of 31-4 in the 3-meter diving and the 400 free relay to drop to the Cougars for a second straight year. Johan Claar continued to be the star swimming for the Rebels, as he won all three of his events Friday, pushing his record thus far in 2005 to eight first places out of nine total swims. He began with a win in the 1000 free (9:30.62), won the 200 fly (1:51.21), and finished with a swim of 4:34.72 in the 500 free.

Also winning events for UNLV was Tamas Bosnyak in the 200 IM (1:55.07), Adam Martinson in the 200 back (1:53.16), and Jonas Andersson in the 200 breast (2:05.35). The Rebels also won the opening 400 medley relay in a time of 3:21.86.

The Rebels remain in the state of Utah, as they take on conference rival Utah on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm (PST) in Salt Lake City.
