Claar Earns Second Weekly Award

Nov. 16, 2005

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the second time this season, UNLV freshman Johan Claar was named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

A native of Bankeryd, Sweden, Claar won all six of his individual races over the weekend, helping the Rebels pull out a split on a two-meet road trip. Against BYU on Nov. 11, Claar won the 500 free (4:34.72), the 1000 free (9:30.62), and the 200 fly (1:51.21). In a win over Utah on Nov. 12, Claar again swept the same three events, swimming the 500 free in 4:42.58, the 1000 free in 9:44.73, and the 200 fly in 1:54.10. The six wins gives him 11 victories out of 12 swims this season, and he has won his last 10 events. He also holds the top times in the conference this year in the 500 and 1000 free, and in the 200 fly.

UNLV will be off for the next few weeks, before sending swimmers to the US Open Championships in Auburn, Ala., on Dec. 1-3.
