HONOLULU (AP) - After failing to score a point last month in Las Vegas, senior forward Julian Sensley scored a career-high 28 points to lead Hawaii over UNLV 78-72 Tuesday night.
Sensley, who was held scoreless in the Rainbow Warrior's Nov. 22 loss at UNLV, shot 10-of-15 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range.
Hawaii took a 59-46 lead on a pair of Sensley free throws with 9:07 remaining in the game, but UNLV cut the deficit to 72-66 on a 3-pointer by Jason Petrimoulx with 1:30 left.
Hawaii made key free throws down the stretch to hold off the Rebels.
Turnovers plagued both teams.
UNLV turned the ball over 21 times and Hawaii 20, but the Rainbow Warriors made up for it by shooting 51 percent to the Rebels' 43.1 percent.
Ahmet Gueye added 13 points and eight rebounds, and Matt Lojeski added 15 points for the Rainbow Warriors (3-1).
Petrimoulx and Louis Amundson had 17 points apiece for the Runnin' Rebels (2-4). Michael Umeh added 16 points and Jo'Van Adams had 10. Amundson pulled down 12 rebounds.
