Two For Two For Tennis

Feb. 23, 2005

LAS VEGAS - UNLV earned its second league honor in as many weeks as Las Vegan Joel Kielbowicz was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday.

After the Rebels' Friday match was rained out, Kielbowicz moved up a spot in the starting lineup on Sunday vs. Hawaii and trounced his opponent at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-1. He also teamed with David Campbell in doubles to win 8-4 at the second position as UNLV defeated the Rainbow Warriors 5-2.

It marked the Rebels' seventh consecutive victory -- their longest winning streak since 1997 -- and helped the team improve two spots to No. 70 in this week's national rankings.

A graduate of Green Valley High School, Kielbowicz has won six straight and 10 of his last 11 matches. His honor comes just one week after UNLV senior Henner Nehles won his fourth career MWC award.

Nora Quintal of New Mexico was named the women's MWC Player of the Week. The Rebels (7-2) are off until hosting South Carolina on March 9.
