Rebels Fall To Third After Two Rounds

LAS VEGAS - The 15th-ranked UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 6-under-par 282 and fell to third place after two rounds at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Thursday at Leilehua Golf Course (par 72, 6,917 yards) in Wahiawa, Hawaii.

New Mexico (274-275--549, -27) leads the field after shooting a second-round 13-under 275. The Lobos are at 27-under and lead Arizona (278-275--553, -23) by four shots. UNLV (274-282--556, -20), who was tied for first after the first round of play, is now seven shots back at 20-under, while BYU (286-271--557, -19) sits at 19-under in fourth after shooting a tournament-low round of 17-under 271 during the second round. San Diego State (280-280--560, -16) and Texas Tech (280-280--560, -16) round out the top five at 16-under.

UNLV senior Ryan Moore (67-65--132, -12) matched his best round of the season with a 7-under 65 and moved into a three-way tie for first with SMU's Will Dodson (67-65--132, -12) and New Mexico's Spencer Levin (65-67--132, -12). All three players are at 12-under, two shots better than BYU's Greg Machtaler (68-66--134, -10), who is in fourth place at 10-under.

Moore's other round of 7-under in the third and final round at the William H. Tucker Invitational, which was played in October in Albuquerque, N.M. Moore won that event.

While Moore shot 7-under, the rest of UNLV's squad was a combined 1-over. Freshman Jarred Texter (69-71--140, -4) shot a second-round 1-under 71 and is tied for 18th place. Senior Travis Whisman (68-73--141, -3) and junior Andres Gonzales (71-73--144, E) both shot 1-over 73 as Whisman sits in a tie for 25th and Gonzales is tied for 50th as is sophomore Sam Hunt (70-74--144, E), who shot a second-round 2-over 74.

The tournament will conclude on Friday with 18 holes.
