LAS VEGAS - Host UNLV got back on the courts for the first time in nearly a month Friday and shut out Northern Arizona 7-0 to close the opening round of the fourth annual Lady Rebel Classic at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The 48th-ranked Lady Rebels did not lose a set en route to improving to 2-0 while the Lumberjacks fell to 0-5 overall.

UNLV, which had not played since Jan. 30, began by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point.

In singles play, 21st-ranked Elena Gantcheva breezed by Julie Schmandt at the top position 6-1, 6-1 while Gyorgyi Zsiros held off Susan McClelland at No. 2, 6-1, 7-5. Also winning in straight sets for UNLV was Anne Claire Ortiz-Luis at No. 3, Cindy Treber at No. 4, Claire Smith at No. 5 and Linda Tempelfelde on court six.

"It was nice to finally get back into action" UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "Everybody competed well today and I think we are ready for a big challenge tomorrow."

The Lady Rebels advanced to Saturday's semifinals where they will meet No. 21 Fresno State after the Bulldogs got by Oklahoma State 4-3. The other semifinal match will see No. 15 Tulane, which shut out Cal State Northridge 7-0, take on No. 30 New Mexico, which got by Texas Tech 5-2.

Semifinals are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PST, weather permitting, with play in the consolation bracket to follow. The tournament concludes Sunday.
