LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's tennis team picked up its third straight shutout victory with a 7-0 downing of Weber State in the second of two Rebel matches Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
UNLV did not lose a set while improving to 3-2 overall while the Wildcats fell to 0-4 after also falling to Northern Arizona earlier in the day.
"It was a long day of tennis so it was good to get two wins on the board," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "We still have some areas to work on but we are looking forward to our tournament next weekend."
UNLV hosts its annual eight-team spring invitational on Feb. 11-13. The Rebels started Saturday afternoon by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point, including an 8-0 shutout at the top spot by the UNLV senior duo of Henner Nehles and Aviram Salomon.
In singles play, 38th-ranked Nehles breezed by Jonathan Engelbrect 6-1, 6-2 at the top spot. With Salomon taking the evening off, Joel Kielbowicz moved up to the second position and cruised 6-3, 6-2 over Mathis Saberon.
Also moving up one position in the lineup and winning in straight sets were Romain Massaro, Jonathan Hooper, Martin Redelinghuys and Sean Hubbard.
