LAS VEGAS - UNLV's men's program marked its third Mountain West Conference Tennis Player of the Week honor on Wednesday as repeat honoree Joel Kielbowicz was announced by the league.
Kielbowicz also won the award on Feb. 23 just a week after teammate Henner Nehles earned the honor.
A junior, Kielbowicz is ranked 91st in the nation in singles and went a combined 5-1 last weekend to help his team to victories over two ranked opponents. His effort was highlighted by winning in both singles and doubles, along with teammate David Campbell, to lead the Rebels to a 4-3 upset of then-10th-ranked Oklahoma State on Sunday. The victory was the school's first-ever over a team ranked in the nation's top 10. As a result, UNLV jumped a program-record 24 spots in the rankings to No. 47.
A graduate of Green Valley High School, Kielbowicz has won nine straight matches to improve to 14-5 overall.
The Rebels (9-3) head to Boise, Idaho, for three matches this weekend, starting with Yale on Friday.
Anastasia Sourkova of BYU was named the women's MWC Player of the Week.
