Rebels To Run With Nation's Elite

LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field continues it outdoor season at one of the top meets in the country, the 31st Annual Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Palo Alto, Calif., on March 25-26.

The Rebels will be taking 15 athletes to the meet and this will be the first outdoor meet for senior Christine Spence, who earned All-America honors in the indoor pentathlon this year. She will be competing in the high jump and the 200. Fellow senior Halima Decree, who along with Spence qualified for last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships, will run in the 100, 200 and 400.

More than 4,000 college and high school athletes are expected to compete in the two-day event. Among the top teams in the field are host Stanford, California, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, BYU and Iowa. Last year's meet produced more than 200 NCAA Division I automatic or regional qualifiers.

The meet gets underway Friday's at 9:50 a.m. (PST) with the women's 5,000 meters and the first day of competition will conclude with the men's 5,000 meters at 10:50 p.m. Saturday's the first event will start at 9:00 a.m. with the high school girl's 400 meter hurdles and the first collegiate event will be the men's shot put at 11:00 a.m.
