PALO ALTO, Calif. - Halima Decree sprinted her way to a final Friday afternoon as the UNLV women's track and field team competed in the first day of the 41st Annual Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
DeCree ran the fifth-fastest time in the 100 meter preliminaries with a 11.86 and was one of two Rebels who advanced to Saturday's finals. Miesha McClendon finished seventh in the 100 meter hurdles preliminaries, crossing the finish line in a time of 13.94.
Several other UNLV athletes competed in Friday's opening round, many in `B' sections of competition.
Ashley Patin finished fourth in the 400 meters in a time of 57.44 with Terri Trautwein coming in 15th in a time of 62.49. Michele Suszek came in ninth in the second section of the 10,000 meters with a time of 35:37.39. Meylonn Parker crossed the finish line in 14th place in the `B' section of the 200 meters with a time of 27.93 and Kenya Polee was 16th with a time of 28.21.
Christine Spence will compete in her first outdoor meet of 2005 for the Rebels at the invitational on Saturday. Spence, who earned All-America honors in the indoor pentathlon this year, will be competing in the high jump and the 200
Saturday's first event will start at 9:00 a.m. with the high school girl's 400 meter hurdles and the first collegiate event will be the men's shot put at 11:00 a.m.
