Outdoor Opener For Rebels

March 4, 2005

LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track team will compete in a meet outside for the first time in 2005 as the Rebels travel to Long Beach, Calif., for the Long Beach Relays on Saturday.

Just a week removed from their sixth-place finish at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships, the Rebels will have 20 athletes entered in events.

Coming off of her 60 meter championship at the league indoor championships, Halima Decree leads the Rebels into the Golden State. DeCree will be joined by three other Rebels who finished in the top 10 at the conference championships last weekend - Deanna Appuglise (8th, 400), Brittney Bullocks (2nd, 200 meters) and Miesha McClendon (3rd, 60 meter hurdles).

UNLV is part of a field that includes Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, USC, Cal Poly Pomona, Long Beach CC, Los Angeles CC, El Camino JC, San Diego Mesa College and Cerritos JC.

The all-day meet gets underway at 8:30 a.m. (PST) with the men's hammer throw. The first women's even is the javelin, which starts at 9:00 a.m.
