LAS VEGAS - Junior Matthew Johnson and sophomore Kaileen Gersper led those recognized at the 26th Annual UNLV Scholar-Athlete Honors Luncheon held at the Richard Tam Alumni Center on UNLV's campus Wednesday.
Johnson, a goalkeeper on the men's soccer team, was recognized for being the top male student-athlete at the university with the highest cumulative grade-point average of those having completed at least one academic year at UNLV. The native of Bend, Ore., holds an impressive 3.91 GPA and won the award for the second straight year.
Gersper, a women's swimmer from Evergreen, Colo., was the top female student-athlete honored with an outstanding 3.95 GPA.
Also announced at the luncheon were to top sports awards, which were given to the student-athletes with the highest cumulative GPA in their individual sports of those who have completed at least one full academic year at UNLV. The top sports awards were:
