Ten Rebels Advance To Saturday Finals

FRESNO, Calif. - UNLV women's track and field had ten athletes qualify for finals and two others place second in their respective events Friday at the Cal-Nevada Championships at Warmerdam Field on the campus of Fresno State.

Christine Spence ran her way to three Saturday finals and also placed second in the high jump, clearing 5'5.75". She qualified for tomorrow's championship races in the 400 meters with a time of 55.67, in the 100 meter hurdles by clocking a 13.84 and in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.91.

Fellow senior Michele Suszek also earned a second-place finish in the 3,000 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 10:17.71. Suszek also qualified for the finals in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:48.69.

Halima Decree and Brittney Bullocks both qualified for finals in two events for the Rebels. DeCree, who has the second-fastest 100-meters time in the nation, ran an 11.83 in the event and also ran a 24.27 in the 200 meters to move onto Saturday's finals. Bullocks also qualified in the 200 meters with a time of 24.91 and also in 400 meters with a time of 56.16.

Other qualifiers for UNLV were Deanna Appuglise in the 400 meters with a time of 55.57 and Miesha McClendon in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.26.

The final day of competition at the championships start Saturday at 10:45 a.m. (PT) with the first event being the women's hammer throw.
