ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNLV men's golf team leads the field by seven strokes and is the only team under par after the first two rounds of play at the William H. Tucker Invitational Friday at UNM's Championship Course (par 72, 7,339 yards).
UNLV (282-288--570,-6) began the tournament with the second-lowest first-round total of 6-under 282, and followed that up by becoming the only team to break 290 in the second round as the Rebels fired an even-par 288. Texas Tech (280-297--577, +1), owner of the tournament's low round of 8-under 280 during the opening round of play, trails the Rebels by seven shots. Colorado (288-290--578, +2), Northwestern (288-293--581, +5) and Texas A&M (294-290--584, +8) round out the top five.
Rebel senior Andres Gonzales (67-72--139, -5) fired a first-round 5-under 67 then shot an even-par 72 in the second round to lead all individuals. UNLV teammate, sophomore Jarred Texter (69-72--141, -3) is in a three-way tie for second place, two shots off the pace.
Other Rebel scores: freshman Seung-Su Han (71-73--144, E; T12th), freshman Blake Trimble (77-71--148, +4; T37th) and senior Casey Fowles (75-77--152, +8; T68th).
Play concludes with 18 holes on Saturday.
