RENO, Nev. - UNLV track and field opened its indoor season Saturday at the Silver State Open held at the Reno Livestock and Events Center and had four athletes place in the top three in events.

Ashley Owens had a strong day for the Rebels, winning section one of the 55 meters with a time of 6.79 and also the 'B' section of the 200 meters with a time of 25.37. Deanna Appuglise was also a winner for the Rebels, clocking the fastest time in section one of the 600 meters with a 1:37.14.

Jenni Shearer covered the mile in a time of 5:35.80 to finish third in the event. It was the first track meet for the freshman, who was the Rebels' top cross country runner in 2005. Lekeisha Lawson, another freshman, finished third in section three of the 55 meters with a time of 7.19.
