LAS VEGAS - David Campbell is the last UNLV singles player still alive in the main draw of the annual Rebel Classic Men's Tennis Tournament, which kicked off Friday at the Darling Tennis Center.

Campbell, who is playing in the second of two flights of singles, defeated Fresno State's Greg Jackson 7-6, 6-2 and then downed Roberto Bianco of Fresno Pacific 6-4, 6-2. He advanced to Saturday's semifinal round where he will meet Fresno State's Tejesvi Veerepalli.

In doubles, the Rebel duo of Elliot Wronski and Brett Hunter moved into the quarterfinals with an 8-6 win over BYU's Cale Planck and Cassidy Mears.

UNLV's contingent went 5-8 overall as Hunter and Wronski both won their first-round matches before falling later in the day. Consolation play will begin on Saturday.

"Overall it was a tough day of competition for us, but everyone competed well," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "We need to have a big day tomorrow and make the most out of our final tournament of the season."
