COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV sophomore Jonas Andersson was named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Andersson was the first Rebel to earn weekly conference honors this season.
A native of Enskede, Sweden, Andersson was the top performer this past weekend for the 23rd-ranked Rebels, who finished sixth out of 11 teams in the Texas Invite, which featured three of the top six teams in the nation. His best swim of the invitational came in the 200 breast, where he finished fourth in the third-fastest time in conference history, 1:59.25. That was also good for the second-best time in UNLV history. Andersson followed that with a league-best time of 55.54 in the 100 breast, good for seventh place.
He also swam the breast leg on the Rebels' fourth-place 200 and 400 medley relays, both of which posted league-best times thus far this season.
UNLV returns to action next weekend, when it hosts the UNLV Winter Invitational on Dec. 16-18 in Buchanan Natatorium.
