ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - UNLV track and field had two athletes advance to the finals during the second day of the Mountain West Conference track and field championships Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Ashley Owens and Lekeisha Lawson both moved onto Saturday's finals with Owens running the fastest time in the 60 meters and the second-fastest time in the 200 meters. Owens crossed the tape in the 60 meters in a time of 7.29 and then ran a time of 24.39 in the 200. Lawson added a time of 7.55 in the 60 meters, the fifth-fastest qualifying time, joining Owens in the finals.
Two other Rebels added 12th place finishes Friday in finals, which did not score any team points on Friday. Jenni Shearer ran a 5:21.65 in the mile and Monique Humphries finished with a mark of 53'-0.00" in the weight throw.
Colorado State is leading the women with 73 points and holds a narrow lead over BYU, which has 64.50 points. San Diego State (31.5), Utah (29), Wyoming (17), New Mexico (17), TCU (7), Air Force (1) and UNLV (0) round out the field after two days of competition.
Saturday is the final day of the championships.
