LAS VEGAS - The No. 10 UNLV men's golf team shot a 7-over-par 295 on the first day of play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship on Friday at Southern Highlands Golf Club (par 72, 7,510 yards) and is tied with Georgia for first place.
Trailing UNLV and Georgia, is Georgia Tech at 9-over 297, two shots back. Oklahoma State is fourth at 11-over 299 and Clemson rounds out the top five at 13-over 301.
UCLA's Daniel Im is the individual leader after shooting a first-round 3-under 69 and leads UNLV sophomore C.J. Gatto by two shots. Gatto fired a 1-under 71 on Friday to lead the Rebels.
UNLV sophomore Jarred Texter is also in the top five as he shot 1-over 73 and is in a six-way tie for fifth place. Freshman Seung-Su Han is the other Rebel in the top 20 as he is tied for 11th at 2-over 74.
Other Rebel scores: sophomore Matt Kinsinger (playing as an individual), +4, 76, T21st; junior Sam Hunt, +5, 77, T32nd; Sophomore Brandon Loska (playing as an individual), +8, 80, T54th; senior Casey Fowles (playing as an individual), +9, 81, T60th; senior Andres Gonzales, +9, 81, T60th; and freshman Blake Trimble (playing as an individual), +16, 88, 79th.
The tournament, which features 15 teams - 13 of which are ranked in the GCAA Top 25 - and 79 individuals, will continue with 18 holes on Saturday and conclude with 18 on Sunday. The tournament is open to the public and there is no charge for admission.
