LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior Brett Hunter was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Thursday.
Hunter, a transfer from Auburn who joined the Rebels in January, won two key matches in singles and doubles last week to lead UNLV to a 6-1 upset win over then-No. 58 Ball State.
A native of Ballarat, Australia, Hunter swept Tony Epkey 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot in singles to improve his record to 10-2. He also played doubles with Elliot Wronski at the second spot and the duo rallied to win 8-6 to clinch the doubles point for UNLV. Hunter is now 8-1 when playing with Wronski.
UNLV, which improved to 6-0 at home this year, hosts South Carolina Friday at 1:30 p.m. to close out its 2006 non-conference home schedule.
BYU's Lauren Jones was named the MWC Women's Tennis Players of the Week.
