SALT LAKE CITY - The 58th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team was upended 5-2 by BYU in a neutral-site meeting at the Snowbird Canyon Club in Salt Lake City.
The Rebels fell to 13-6 overall and 2-2 in the MWC while the Cougars improved to 11-15 and 4-1.
BYU began the afternoon by winning on all three courts to take the doubles point. Rains soon forced the proceedings indoors after the Cougars took a 3-0 lead.
The Rebels only got victories from the Nos. 1 and 4 positions. Senior Joel Kielbowicz used a super-tiebreaker to down James Ludlow 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) while Brett Hunter rallied past Ivan Kokurin 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. The Rebels will continue league play by facing TCU Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. PST.
