PROVO, Utah - The No. 6 UNLV men's golf team is tied for eighth place after the first two rounds of play at the PING Cougar Classic played on Friday at Riverside Country Club (par 72, 6,950 yards).
The Rebels (283-286--569, -7), followed up a first-round 5-under-par 283 with a second-round score of 2-under 286 for a two-round total of 7-under 569 and are tied with UTEP (286-283--569, -7) for eighth.
Charlotte (276-275--551, -25) holds the tournament's team lead at 25-under 551. Fresno State (275-281--556, -20) and Weber State (278-278--556, -20) are both tied for second, five shots back at 20-under. Host BYU (281-276--557, -19) is fourth at 19-under, while Nevada, Reno (289-276--565, -11) rounds out the top five, 14 shots back at 11-under.
Weber State's Barry Schenk (67-66--133, -11) has the tournament's individual lead at 11-under after following up a first-round 5-under 67 with a second-round 6-under 66. Schenk is at 11-under 133, one shot ahead of Utah's Dustin Pimm (64-70--134, -10) who shot a first-round 8-under 64 and is in second place at 10-under.
UNLV senior Andres Gonzales (68-70--138, -6) leads the Rebels at 6-under 138, five shots off the lead in a six-way tie for ninth place.
Other UNLV scores: sophomore Jarred Texter (72-71--143, -1; T33rd), freshman Seung-Su Han (71-73--144, E; T38th), freshman Blake Trimble (72-73--145, +1; T45th) and sophomore Matt Kinsinger (74-72--146, +2; T54th).
The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Saturday.
