PROVO, Utah - The No. 6 UNLV men's golf team fired a tournament-low 18-under-par 270 during the final round of play at the PING Cougar Classic on Saturday at Riverside Country Club (par 72, 6,950 yards) and moved up four spots to finish the event in fourth place.
The Rebels (283-286-270--839, -25) finished the tournament at 25-under 839, 11 shots behind host BYU (281-276-271--828, -36), which shot a final-round 17-under 271 and finished the tournament at 36-under to capture the team title.
Charlotte (276-275-278--829, -35) finished second at 35-under, one shot back. Weber State (278-278-282--838, -26) finished third at 26-under, while Nevada, Reno (289-276-276--841, -23) rounded out the top five.
Weber State's Barry Schenk (67-66-68--201, -15) shot a final-round 4-under 68 to remain as the individual leader and took home medalist honors with a 15-under total of 201. There was a three-way tie for second place at 11-under.
UNLV was led by senior Andres Gonzales (68-70-68--206, -10), who fired a final-round 4-under 68 to finish the tournament in a tie for fifth place at 10-under 206. Other notable UNLV final rounds included freshman Seung-Su Han's 6-under 66, sophomore Jarred Texter's 5-under 67 and sophomore Matt Kinsinger's 3-under 69.
Other UNLV scores: Texter (72-71-67--210, -6; T19th), Han (71-73-66--210, -6; T19th), Kinsinger (74-72-69--215, -1; T34th) and freshman Blake Trimble (72-73-74--219, +3; T53rd).
UNLV's next action will be April 27-29 at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Sunriver, Ore.
