SALT LAKE CITY - The 58th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team lost 4-3 to New Mexico on Sunday in the final regular-season match of the season for both teams.
Playing a neutral-site date at the Snowbird Canyon Club, the Rebels fell to 13-8 overall and finished 2-4 in the Mountain West Conference while the Lobos improved to 11-8 and tied UNLV in the league standings in fourth place along with Utah.
UNM began the morning by winning on all three courts to take the doubles point.
In singles play, the Rebels rebounded to score three points but dropped three-set finals at the top two positions as the Lobos squeaked it out. Winning for UNLV were Elliot Wronski, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3; Brett Hunter, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 at No. 4; and Jonathan Hooper, 7-6, 6-4 on court five.
The Rebels will now await word on seeding for the MWC championship tournament to be played April 27-29 in San Diego.
