LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field team will wrap up its regular season this Saturday at the Steve Scott Meet, held on the UC Irvine campus at Anteater Stadium in Irvine, Calif.
Rebel head coach Barbara Ferrell-Edmonson will be sending her full squad after just the UNLV throwers competed in the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego last weekend. Some of the other teams that will be at the meet include host UC Irvine, San Diego State, UC Riverside, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State, as well as several individual competitors.
Currently sophomore sprinter Lauren Johnson and freshman sprinter Lekeisha Lawson each have two of the top marks in the Mountain West Conference in sprinting events. Johnson has the fourth-fastest time in the 200 meters with a time of 24.04 and the sixth-fastest mark in the 100 meters with an 11.84. Lawson has had a strong first year with the Rebels and has the fourth-fastest time in the 100 at 11.79 and the ninth-best time in the 200 at 24.64.
Tanesha Carr has posted the 10th-best time in the 100 meters this year with a 12.22 and Monique Humphries has same mark in the hammer throw with a school-record toss of 159'-6.00", which she set at the UNLV Invitational on April 1. UNLV's relay teams are also in the top five in the conference, as the 4x100 squad has the second-fastest time at 45.74 while the 4x400 team is fifth in the MWC with a time of 3:50.20.
Saturday's meet will be the final chance for the Rebels to improve their marks before the Mountain West Conference Tournament, which will be held May 10-13 in Provo, Utah.
