SUNRIVER, Ore. - The No. 8 UNLV men's golf team shot a 4-over-par 292 on the first day of play at the Mountain West Conference Championship on Thursday at the Crosswater Course (par 72, 7,568 yards) and is in fourth place, eight shots off the lead.
Because of frost, the day got off to a late start with tee times delayed approximately one hour.
BYU and New Mexico lead the field after both schools fired first-round scores of 4-under 284. TCU is third at 2-under 286, followed by UNLV in fourth, San Diego State in fifth at 6-over, Colorado State in sixth at 13-over, Wyoming in seventh at 14-over, Utah in eighth at 25-over and Air Force is last at 32-over.
BYU's Clay Ogden leads all individuals after a first-round 3-under 69 and is alone in first place.
UNLV sophomore Matt Kinsinger led all Rebel players with a first-round 2-under 70 and is in a four-way tie for second place, one shot off the lead.
Other Rebel scores: senior Andres Gonzales (73, +1; T15th), freshman Seung-Su Han (74, +2; T19th), sophomore Jarred Texter (75, +3; T22nd) and sophomore C.J. Gatto (76, +4; T28th).
The tournament, which features all nine MWC teams and 45 individuals, will continue with 18 holes on Friday and conclude with 18 on Saturday.
