SUNRIVER, Ore. - The No. 8 UNLV men's golf team shot a 1-over-par 289 during the second round of play at the Mountain West Conference Championship on Friday at the Crosswater Course (par 72, 7,568 yards) and is in fifth place with a two-round total of 5-over 581, 14 shots off the lead.
New Mexico created a little breathing room on Friday with a 5-under 283 and leads the tournament at 9-under 567. San Diego State is second after shooting a tournament-low 8-under 280 on Friday and is 2-under 574 for the tournament, seven shots back.
TCU is third at even-par 576, BYU is fourth at 3-over 579, while UNLV rounds out the top five. Colorado State is sixth at 8-over, Utah is seventh at 23-over, Wyoming is eighth at 29-over and Air Force is last at 38-over.
TCU's Drew Stoltz shot a second-round 2-under 70 to take the tournament's individual lead at 3-under 141 and is followed by four golfers in a tie for second at 2-under 142, which includes UNLV sophomore Matt Kinsinger, who followed his first-round 2-under 70 with an even-par 72 during the second round.
Other Rebel scores: senior Andres Gonzales (73-73--146, +2; T17th), sophomore Jarred Texter (75-71--146, +2; T17th), sophomore C.J. Gatto (76-73--149, +5; T26th) and freshman Seung-Su Han (74-76--150, +6; T30th).
The tournament, which features all nine MWC teams and 45 individuals, will conclude with 18 holes on Saturday.
