Results

SUNRIVER, Ore. - The No. 8 UNLV men's golf team made a charge on the final day of the Mountain West Conference Championship Saturday at the Crosswater Course (par 72, 7,568 yards) with a 5-over 293, the best team score of the day, but it wasn't enough as the Rebels finished third at 10-over 874 for the tournament, nine shots back of team champion New Mexico.

New Mexico, which won its fourth straight conference championship, shot a final-round 10-over par 298 to finish at 1-over 865 for the tournament. San Diego State shot 8-over 296 on the final day to finish in second place at 6-over 870. UNLV was third at 10-over, while BYU was fourth at 14-over and TCU rounded out the top five at 18-over.

Colorado State finished sixth at 19-over, Utah was seventh at 44-over, Wyoming was eighth at 50-over, while Air Force finished last at 67-over.

New Mexico's Jay Choi shot a final-round 1-over 73 and finished the tournament as the only player under par, which earned medalist honors at 1-under 215. Two players tied for second place, one shot back at even par.

UNLV was led by sophomores Matt Kinsinger and Jarred Texter who tied for sixth at 2-over 218, three shots back. Kinsinger shot a final-round 4-over 76, while Texter was at even par on Saturday.

Other Rebel scores: senior Andres Gonzales (73-73-73--219, +3; T12th), sophomore C.J. Gatto (76-73-74--223, +7; T20th) and freshman Seung-Su Han (74-76-74--224, +8; T25th).

The tournament featured all nine MWC teams and 45 individuals.

After the conclusion of the championship the league announced the all-conference team and league awards. Han was named the MWC Freshman of the Year, while Gonzales, Han and Texter represented the Rebels on the all-conference team.

BYU's Jake Ellison earned player of the year honors, while coach of the year went to Bruce Brockbank of BYU.
